MEET
ella ‘v’ reid
the patron saint of tattoo art
Coming from an art history back ground,V is the girl who answers all your inquiries, makes sure all the artists have enough gloves and occasionally annoys the owners with questions about the different kinds of needles as she is still very new to the tattoo community. She still has an in-depth knowledge of the different styles and aesthetics of the Compendium team, so if you are thinking of getting a tattoo but have no idea how to start, she is the person to talk to. Like many academics before her, she can talk for hours about art, which includes tattoos. So if you would like to have a chat about all the different options in the realm of tattoos, feel free to email her!
On top of managing the studio, she is also an assistant curator for Compendium Gallery, working with the Gallery Manager Elle Zoltak, she assists in the production and display of the plethora of artists Compendium Gallery has shown. Though an exhibition she holds near and dear to her heart is the annual Permanent exhibition. An exhibition that breaks apart the stereotype that the tattoo world is rarely thought of as existing in the same parameters as the fine art world. Featuring some of the most notable tattoo artists in Australia and Internationally. Tattoo artists, though often having their own style like any other visual artist, are often constrained by the wants and needs of their clients. However, these artists are happy to create custom pieces for their clients, many do create art objects separate from the skin of their clients. This exhibition has set out to highlight the level of creative genius and the pure creative freedom these masters express when creating their work.
